About Plymouth
map
Plymouth Massachusetts is the largest town in area in the Commonwealth. It is a coastal community in southeastern Massachusetts about 5 miles north of the Cape Cad Canal. In the past Plymouth was mostly an isolated seacoast area where the economy was linked to the sea and shipping. The site of the original Pilgrim settlement in 1620 is now part of today's thriving Downtown/Harbor district.

Because of its accessibility to the Boston metropolitan area and its desirability in terms of land prices as well as tax rates and other residential amenities, Plymouth's population increased 145% in the 20 years between 1970 and 1990. The town has a healthy industrial and commercial base along with amenities that include exclusive golf course communities and miles of beautiful beaches.

Residents of Plymouth are proud of its downtown and harbor and beaches and are committed to controlling its residential growth while welcoming industrial and commercial expansion.

This year, we have two dates available as well as Premier Ticket Packages available: Saturday, September 12th Saturday September 19th Passenger Tickets are $150 and include a seat aboard the Expedition, breakfast and lunch on board. Premier Ticket Packages are $195; in addition to all the Passenger tickets offer, Premier ticket holders will have access to the kickoff party (appetizers and drinks with the experts the evening before their selected trip), pre-boarding for the Expedition AND take home videos from both Whale and Dolphin Conservation and Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. *If you are purchasing as a holiday gift and would like a PDF printable ticket, send us a request email and we will be happy to provide!* If you are joining us from out of town and would like information on travel deals or need hand-capable accomodations please contact the event organizer at emily.moss@whales.org.  For more information on the host organizations, visit whales.org and atlanticwhiteshark.org? • Last year this race exploded in numbers to triple it's 2nd year size. We expect over 1000 runners for this years race. Sign up early and get a $10 discount before September 1st. Get a $7 discount if you sign up before October 1st.

• When discussing the American tradition called "The Turkey Trot", no race can compare to the historical relevance of the PLYMOUTH TURKEY TROT. Runners will be taken back in time to the days and the place where Thanksgiving first started. The race is scenic and challenging, culminating in a climb to Forefathers Monument. The tallest granite monument in the USA!

• Don't miss this special opportunity to run or walk where the Pilgrims walked in times of old on Thanksgiving day. See Plymouth Rock, where the race starts. Take a picture at Plymouth Rock or in front of the Mayflower II. Race hard.. Have fun.. Make History!

Get ready for another trip down Old Sandwich Road. This is a three race event. There is a 10 Mile individual race, a 20 Mile individual race and also a 10 Mile total 2 person relay option called the Sacrifice Rock Relay. The 20 miler is a challengine out and back course with only two turns the entire way. The 10 Miler is also challenging but achievable. All races take place on scenic Old Sandwich Road.. The Oldest Public Rod in America and the same path traveled by Pilgrims in times of old. Sacrifice Rock is a hallmark historical silte of Plymouth's picturesque green belt. The race has several miles of flat and fast dirt road and rolling hills through the Eel River basin before an exciting stadium finish at Plymouth North High School. Runners will park at Plymouth North High School and take buses to the start for the 10 Miler and the Sacrifice Relay. The 20 Miler starts and finishes at Plymouth North High School Stadium.

Why chose this race?

1) The 10 mile start site of the race is Ellisville Harbor State park. A nature reserve on the coasts of Cape Cod Bay. http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/region-south/ellisville-harbor-state-park.html

2) It has very few turns. It's a rare tranquil course which will be one of the straightest 10 or 20 mile courses you have ever raced. Runners can get into a flow and not worry about traffic or getting lost.

3) Old Sandwich Road was named trail of the month in January, 2104 by Runners World Magazing for it's history and it's beauty. http://www.runnersworld.com/trails-to-run/trail-of-the-month-old-sandwich-road-plymouth-massachusetts
