Plymouth Massachusetts is the largest town in area in the Commonwealth. It is a coastal community in southeastern Massachusetts about 5 miles north of the Cape Cad Canal. In the past Plymouth was mostly an isolated seacoast area where the economy was linked to the sea and shipping. The site of the original Pilgrim settlement in 1620 is now part of today's thriving Downtown/Harbor district.
Because of its accessibility to the Boston metropolitan area and its desirability in terms of land prices as well as tax rates and other residential amenities, Plymouth's population increased 145% in the 20 years between 1970 and 1990. The town has a healthy industrial and commercial base along with amenities that include exclusive golf course communities and miles of beautiful beaches.
Residents of Plymouth are proud of its downtown and harbor and beaches and are committed to controlling its residential growth while welcoming industrial and commercial expansion.
Plymouth Community Theatre presents 'The Importance of Being Earnest' by Oscar Wilde Directed by Marnie Almirall This is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious persons in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. Its high farce and witty dialogue have helped make The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde's most enduringly popular play.

Museum deaccession stored unseen and untouched for decades
PLYMOUTH, MA, March 28, 2014– J. James Auctioneers & Appraisers, in conjunction with The Exchange of Plymouth, Massachusetts is pleased to offer an unprecedented collection of militaria for sale at public auction on April 26, 2014 at Plymouth Memorial Hall, 83 Court Street, Plymouth, MA. This collection is part of a museum deaccession that has been stored unseen and untouched for decades. Many historically significant and valuable pieces will be brought fresh-to-market and include rare and important military uniforms and accoutrements of the 17th and 18th Centuries, Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish American War, Indian Wars, WWI and WWII.
Important uniforms of the American Civil War include a pair of General Officer Frock Coats, A rare Chasseur pattern artillery shako (one of only 10,000 produced during the war), Union officer Kepis, and a NY State Artillery Shell Jacket. Two wartime presentation swords, one Union, presented to Joseph Emery Fiske Jr. Captain, 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery Division, Dec. 1863, captured at Plymouth, NC, he was imprisoned at Columbia, SC and another Confederate sword presented to Lieutenant E.H. Johnston, 2nd Maryland Cavalry Division, on July 4, 1863.
“Working to catalog this incredibly diverse collection has been a unique and exciting challenge, for me as well as my staff. Throughout this process, we have felt the gravity of the history these objects carry with them and the importance of preserving the legacy they represent.” states J. James Auctioneers & Appraisers Chief Auctioneer, Josh Rioux.
A highlight of this sale is a three-piece uniform, fore and aft cap and gilt etched sword attributed (with family provenance), to United States Navy Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry (1785-1819), who defeated the British Royal Navy in the famed Battle of Lake Erie in 1813. This important group will be offered for sale in three separate lots.
Another uniform certain to generate interest among military collectors is a decorated formal dress uniform attributed to U.S. Army General Omar Nelson Bradley (1893-1981), the last of only nine individuals in history to have earned the esteemed rank of five-star General in the United States Armed Forces. During World War II Bradley, nicknamed “The G.I.’s General” commanded over 1.3 million troops in Europe, the largest number of soldiers to have served under a U.S. Field Commander.
Beginning with Germany’s invasion of Poland in 1939, the Second World War involved nearly sixty-one countries with over seventy-two million deaths by its end in 1945. This collection includes a large array of World War Two uniforms, field gear, insignia and awards. Some important pieces include: German Officer uniforms attributed to SS-Brigadefuhrer, Dr. Friedrich Johann Wimmer (1897-1965), General der Panzertruppen, Heinrich Eberbach (1895-1992), Kriegsmarine Admiral, Erich Forste (1892-1963) and SS-Gruppenfuhrer and Generalleutnant der Shutzpolizei, Arthur Mulverstadt (1894-1941), the latter having gained the dubious notoriety of becoming the first SS General to be killed in action during World War Two.
Admission to the auction is free and open to the general public. Preview Hours will be held 10:00 AM-6:00 PM on Friday, April 25th, and 9:00 AM-11:00 AM day of sale in the Exhibition Room at Plymouth Memorial Hall.
